HMTV Canada Tina: 1. Hi X-Bone-Pirates How is 2008 going for the band so far this year?

X - Bone - Pirates: Well, considering that the band started less than a year ago, we have to say it’s been going better than we could have imagined. We had our first gig at a considerably large festival in our own home town and it was a great success. Both the press and our fans thought it was very good!

HMTV Canada Tina: 2. Much about X - Bone- Pirates still remain a mystery I'm interested in how did all the bands members meet?

X - Bone - Pirates:

Isaac, the drummer and

Kenta, one of the guitarists met at a party and started talking about forming a band…….most times, conversations like this one, doesn’t lead to anything……but occasionally things happened!

Linus, the singer was asked to join the band, then

Jimmy, the bassist and finally

Peter, ..boards.

HMTV Canada Tina: 3. Did the Five Pirates that love to rock play in other bands before you formed X - Bone - Pirates back in February 2007?

X - Bone - Pirates: Linus, Isaac and Jimmy played in a band called ”Pay no mind”, but it had gone at least two years since they were active. Kenta played in several local bands in Linkoping before moving to Umea then he met Peter and the two of them have been writing end of the road, hip hop, dance, funk for about 10 years…hmm I think they’ve tried it all …ha ha.

HMTV Canada Tina: 4. How has your music evolved or changed since you first began playing together?

X - Bone - Pirates: The music have stayed the same since we met the first time……the first tunes were from the song, ”Passion of my life” and it seemed to set the X-bone Pirates touch to it!? He he!

HMTV Canada Tina: 5. who writes your songs and what are the topics, themes, inspirations for most of your lyrics?

X - Bone - Pirates: At the beginning it was Linus and Kenta who wrote the songs……for instance, the song”Pirates of the sea”, was first based on Kentas guitar riffs and then Linus made the melody for the song and wrote the lyrics, I think Kenta come up with the title phrase at the stop -“We’re still Pirates of the sea” it was a little brainstorm thing I remember. ”Heaven can wait” was originally written by Linus, but Kenta changed all the guitar riffs and a bit on the refrain so it became what all our fans like about it! It’s been proved to be a really catchy song! It’s Kenta, Peter and Linus who mainly are involved in the writing process so far…

HMTV Canada Tina: 6. Do you have any technique for your song writing process (putting the music to the lyrics)?

X - Bone - Pirates: It’s mostly Kenta or Peter sitting by the computer doing the frames and riffs and a indication of how the lead song would be (in their own special way…ha ha) Then they send it to Linus, to give them a no or a go! And then one of them has to finish the lyrics etc.

HMTV Canada Tina: 7. Does X - Bone - Pirates have a constant changing approach to recording and mixing your music?

X - Bone - Pirates: we have no idea what we are doing actually…ha ha

HMTV Canada Tina: 8. What is your criteria for a well mixed or engineered song?

X - Bone - Pirates: We don’t know, because we haven’t probably had a great mix on any of our song so far. They all sound a little”low budget recorded”, but people who judge the music by the sound, are not the people we try to reach out to. We are really looking forward to record an album at a professional studio very soon.

HMTV Canada Tina: 9. Are you seeking a record label or wish to stay independent?

X - Bone - Pirates: We are definitely looking for options and a way to finance a high class recording so that our music get’s exposed for a large audience in the right way.

HMTV Canada Tina: 10. What are some of the highlights of X - Bone - Pirates, influences, current production of songs, tours planned, hopes and goals for 2008?

X - Bone - Pirates: We would really like to make a few more gigs and record some new songs. Then it would be nice to broaden our horizons and maybe play in Stockholm or somewhere abroad.

HMTV Canada Tina: 11. Do you have any upcoming shows? X - Bone - Pirates: Yes, we’re having a gig at a local”Hard rock” stage in Umea……..and we have a lot of expectations since we got good critics in the newspaper. We are really excited and eager to play there since we already have broken the ice at”House of metal” in February. HMTV Canada Tina: 12. Do you interact with other bands in your area at live shows?

X - Bone - Pirates: We know some of the local bands, but we do not have any deeper relations to any of the bands.

HMTV Canada Tina: 13. What is your opinion of the music industry today, the pros and cons of the business in general?

X - Bone - Pirates: Well, we think that there are way too many bands that really don’t deserve to get that much attention. On the other hand, there are many great bands and musicians that should be given a greater chance.

HMTV Canada Tina: 14. What is the music scene like in Umea such as popular genres being played on radio?

X - Bone - Pirates: Umea is a great ”heavy metal and music city in general”. We are very proud of ”Meshuggah”, ”Nocturnal rites”, ”Refused” and the more mellow tunes of ”Lisa Miskowzky” and ”Sahara hotnights”.

HMTV Canada Tina: 15. How is the internet working out for X- Bone - Pirates as a marketing tool for your music? How about collaborating with Promotional Representatives in the media? Do you feel that there is a closer networking relationship with your fan base through the internet?

X - Bone - Pirates: The Internet has become the most important and effective way to expose and spread your music. Myspace is probably the site that reaches out to the largest crowd, but they don’t have a niche, they are too wide. Sites like Hollywood Music obviously try to reach out to the crowd that really cares about what they’re listening to and what’s the source of these tunes.

HMTV Canada Tina: 16. What advice do you have for bands and solo artists starting out in the music scene?

X - Bone - Pirates: We really think that we shouldn’t give any advice to anyone since we’re so inexperienced ourselves……….but, rocking.. and having as much fun as you possibly can, takes you a long way on the road!

HMTV Canada Tina: 17. Before we close our interview do you have any shout outs or any last words?

X - Bone - Pirates: We love Rock and Heavy Metal just as much as you do…….and we would really like to exchange some of our tunes with the rest of the rockin..world! ”Keep on rockin..!”
